Zoé Hale
Zoé was born in Virginia and grew up in a family of artists. As a family, she frequented many art museums and shows. Her mother, an art teacher and abstract expressionist who showed at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC., encouraged her to sit by her side and paint with her. Her father, an Air Force judge, was an award-winning painter of realism. His military life afforded the opportunity to travel and delight in a wide diversity of arts and cultures. Zoé's brother is a successful painter, and her sister a sculptor.

She received her BFA from Stephens College. After teaching in Vanderbilt University's theatre department as Designer-in-Residence, she moved to Los Angeles, working as a costumer and designer in the movie and television industry. With her brother's encouragement she resumed painting and started to show in Florida and Los Angeles galleries. In 2000, she retired from film and happily moved to Arizona to concentrate on painting.

While many of her paintings are on a large scale, Zoé is an accomplished miniaturist. Her small paintings are marvels of tiny brushwork.

Ms. Hales's work is in numerous private and corporate collections, and is exhibited in galleries in California and in the Southwest.

“Painting with oils is a constant study for me, whether the subject be a landscape, still life or figurative piece. Capturing the atmosphere and light is my major goal. The inner light or opalescent glow of the painting is a balancing of vivid, complementary colors. I love to create drama with the punch of light and dark coupled with bravura brushwork to emulate movement.”
