Artists: Linda Brown

Linda Brown
Linda Brown is a leading American self-tought folk artist. Each of her paintings tells a story. "I see, I daydream, I interpret," is how she explains the birth of each of her "story scenes." Her composition, spontaneity, and unselfconcious originality of line and color express her feelings of the people, places, and activities that inhabit her art. Linda's paintings are a joy to experience.

The artist was born and raised in the midwest, where she developed a love and appreciation for art. Her parents would take Linda and her two younger sisters on picnics in various parks in Indiana and on vacations in cabins at various lakeside camps in Canada and throughout the United States. Sometimes she would fish with her father or go on nature hikes with her family. All of this instilled a deep love for country life and the small simple community.

Linda moved to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and began to take long walks in the country. Then she began to paint the scenes of her new life. Lancaster County lies in the midst of many rural Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish farms. Many of them still utilize the old farming methods (the Amish farm as they did over a century ago). Linda wants to capture the heart and essence of this land and these people on canvas before it becomes too late.

Her paintings are in collections in the U.S., Canada, Germany, France, Holland, England, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, among others. Her work has been illustrated in national publications, including Country Decorating Magazine, and have been reproduced as a wide variety of greeting cards.
